Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], October 1 (ANI): A contraband containing cocaine weighing 2.31 gms worth Rs 2.31 lakh and international cannabis has been seized in Ahmedabad, an official statement said on Saturday.
According to an official statement, a joint operation was conducted by Ahmedabad City's Cyber Crime Branch and the Customs Department as both agencies received information about drug peddlers using social media platforms and dark for the trade of narcotic substances.
"It has been observed that recently several nefarious elements have tried to harm India's social fabric by making the youth addicted to narcotic substances. Further, both departments have been watchful over the changing modus operandi of the drug networks. During regular monitoring by both agencies, input was received that peddlers are using the dark web and other social media platforms to transmit narcotics across borders," an official statement said.
The Customs department said that a successful trap was laid and contraband was intercepted which is valued at Rs 48,39,015.
"Immediately, the joint team was set up which successfully intercepted several courier parcels.On investigating the suspect couriers, contraband was found to contain Cocaine weighing 2.31 gms worth Rs 2,31,000 with high-quality international cannabis weighing 5.970 kg worth Rs 46,08,015 in the international market which has been seized," an official statement said.
A case was registered at Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
