Testing - Updated Front Profile
Ever since the MQB A0 IN platform was developed, VW Group has been able to turn its fortunes around in India. The company even exports multiple made-in-India vehicles to various developing markets like Mexico and South America. For example, made-in-India T-Cross (sold as Taigun in India) is sold in Mexico and Brazil.
Now this T-Cross is getting a mild facelift which might translate into an updated Taigun in India. The first test mule of this updated model is spotted in Brazil. It poses multiple new elements including some that were inspired by VW T-Roc which was sold in India (imported) for a brief period. Let's take a look at all the new changes and see whether it might make it to India.
Testing For 1st Time
In Brazil, VW Taigun facelift spotted testing, gets camouflage application only at its front. Apart from the slightly larger grille and the minuscule design changes inside said grilles, there aren't any significant design changes. Headlight barrels still look very similar and so do their fog lights.
There are slight changes in the lower bumper where VW might delete its inverted bull-bar type silver element, which looks out of place on a sharp and understated crossover like T-Cross. It is highly unlikely that this set of changes will make it to Indian-spec Taigun. That said, we will get a facelift whose design elements are to be limited to Indian and Chinese models only.
The changes expected with this T-Cross test mule are likely to be limited to Colombia, Mexico, Turkey, Brazil, Chile and the rest of Europe. These markets have a common European design language and get slightly softer detailing than India-spec Taigun. T-Cross sold in above-mentioned markets gets T-Roc inspired design, especially with its fog lamps.
India-Spec Taigun Facelift Launch Plans
India, however, gets a much sharper design language than the softer European-spec design language. It gets aggressive bumpers with sharp and edgy fog lamps. China is an exception, though, which gets both models. Euro design T-Cross is sold as Tacqua (manufactured by FAW-VW JV) and Indian model Taigun is sold here as T-Cross (manufactured by SAIC-VW JV).
Some reports mention the T-Roc like Euro-design T-Cross facelift design elements will come to India-spec Taigun as well. This might not be the case as updates with India-spec Taigun will be in line with updates with China-spec T-Cross in the future and not the Brazilian-spec model that is seen in the spy shots above.
That said, India-spec VW Taigun will get a midlife update when market trends dictate so. If that happens, we can expect minute design changes with front and rear profiles. The 1.0L and 1.5L TSI turbo-petrol powertrains will be carried over as is.
