DETROIT, Michigan: Due to leaking brake hoses and windshield wiper arms that can break off, Ford is recalling more than 1.5 million vehicles in the US.
Some 1.3 million 2013 through 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize cars account for the two largest recalls.
In documents released last week by safety regulators, Ford said that front brake hoses can rupture and leak brake fluid, which could make stopping distances longer.
While the hose will be replaced by dealers, Ford will send owners notification letters starting on 17th April, followed by a second letter, once parts are available for the repair.
Owners should call their dealers as some parts are already available for repairs, the company said, noting that only about 2 percent of vehicles have reported brake hose leaks, and only one crash with no mention of injuries has been caused by this defect.
Due to windshield wiper arms breaking, more than 222,000 F-150 pickups from 2021 will be covered in the second recall.
Dealers will replace the broken arms, and owners will be notified beginning 27th March.
