MOSCOW -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Friday that it has detained a group of hackers for large-scale thefts, after Russian law enforcers were tipped off by U.S. counterparts.
The FSB in cooperation with the Russian Interior Ministry suppressed the illegal activities of the REvil criminal group in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other places, the agency said in a statement. (Russia-Hacker Group)

BRUSSELS -- Excess mortality in the European Union (EU) reached 26.5 percent in November 2021, Eurostat, the EU's statistical agency, reported on Friday.

HONG KONG -- The Airport Authority Hong Kong said on Friday that Hong Kong will ban the transit of flight passengers from more than 100 countries and regions from Sunday until Feb. 15 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Passengers who have stayed in high-risk Group A specified places in the past 21 days will be banned from transferring via the Hong Kong International Airport during the designated period, according to the authority. (Hong Kong-COVID-19-Transit Suspension)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Fed governor Lael Brainard said on Thursday that reducing high inflation is the central bank's "most important task".
