BERLIN, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- In a period of financial distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic, German record champion Bayern Munich is counting on an anti-cyclical strategy.
While most top European sides have sent out their scouts and first-level managing directors to work on new deals with potential reinforcements, the 2020 treble winner is using its investments to secure its current squad.
French winger Kingsley Coman extending his until 2023 running contract until 2027 is said to only be the starting point.
Further so-called "internal transfers" are said to be in progress. After Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka signed new papers, Serge Gnabry, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, and Robert Lewandowski remain the club's most pressing issues.
"Clubs all over the world are looking for players of his quality. His extension is part of the fundament allowing us to secure successful years in Europe's top class over the next years," chairman Oliver Kahn said.
The Bavarian sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic spoke of the great chance to shape a new era following the newly set up strategy.
Not only is the French international enjoying a significant pay-rise. Reports speak of 17 million euros per season. Other members of the team's so-called axis can expect similar treatment.
The 2020 Champions League winner's initiative is grounding on the conclusion, the club is stably commanding a robust team steering with resilience through the turbulences of the pandemic.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann is said to be the decisive factor having triggered the strategy. The coach's approach contains top-quality football and refers to the fans' demand to witness entertainment.
After the changes in the club's leadership, with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness retiring, the 34-year-old has turned into the club's solid anchor. Nagelsmann's influence seems to go far beyond traditional borders.
Reports speak of Nagelsmann having outlined his thoughts mentioning, the club can't afford to deal with another case such as David Alaba. The Austrian defender left for Real after he complained not to have received respect and attention.
Coman's long-lasting contract is seen as a signal to other European topsides, Bayern is taking the vital parts of its squad off the markets.
As if he has assimilated Bayern's strategy, Coman spoke about the best years still lie ahead of him.
German media spoke of a strong signal of Bayern regarding the ambitions of their European rivals to possibly add one of the German side's cornerstones to their team.
In case, Coman is staying until 2027, the forward would end up with 12 years at Bayern following the example of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. The French winger and his Dutch counterpart managed to shape an era leading to Bayern's 2013 Champions League triumph.
The club hoped to repeat their example, as consistency is paying off and, that keeping together a well-oiled squad is leading to success over the long run.
Reports speak of a reward for Coman after the French developed into one of the team's vital performers over the past years now standing in one line with the team's leaders.
