WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday he expected a nominee to replace late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to be announced "next week," and that it will "most likely" be a woman.

MOSCOW -- Russia has registered 6,148 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,103,399, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Sunday.

HANOI -- A tropical storm known as Typhoon Noul hit some central provinces and cities of Vietnam over the past few days, leaving three people dead and 112 others injured, the country's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said Sunday.
Three deaths were recorded in the central provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh, while injuries were confirmed in these localities along with others including Quang Binh province and Da Nang city, said the committee. (Vietnam-Typhoon)

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan -- Taliban insurgents launched massive offensives on Shuhada and Khash districts of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province early Sunday but the attacks have been repulsed, provincial government spokesman Nik Mohammad Nazari said.
"The Taliban rebels launched massive offensives on Shuhada and Khash districts at 1:00 a.m. local time today but the attacks have been repulsed and the insurgents retreated after leaving 17 bodies behind," Nazari told Xinhua.
According to the official, 10 insurgents were killed in Shuhada and seven more killed in Khash district. (Afghanistan-Taliban)
