Charlton ace Jordan Cousins held on suspicion of rape

Europe Sun (ANI) Monday 6th February, 2012

England footballer Jordan Cousins has been arrested over accusations of raping a 12-year-old girl.

Charlton defender Cousins, 17, was quizzed after the youngster contacted detectives.

She alleged that a youth, who bought her new trainers, attacked her just before Christmas in Greenwich, South East London.

Specially trained officers interviewed her on video at a nearby police station. Cousins was later questioned and had a DNA sample, fingerprints and mugshot taken, the Sun reported.

The England under-18 ace, who is believed to have insisted he is innocent, was then given bail.

Cousins, who signed with League One Charlton on his 17th birthday last March, is expected to play in the youth version of Euro 2012.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said "inquiries continue" on the matter. (ANI)
